The 22-year-old man, who is travelling in Tasmania from interstate, is understood to have set off to climb Cradle Mountain without footwear on Saturday morning. Tasmania Police said he called emergency services about 7.30am seeking assistance after suffering from frostbite, with temperatures at the time below zero degrees.

"Sergeant Jeremy Williams would like to remind walkers of the need to be properly prepared with equipment and experience when venturing into the wilderness.
