Tasman Drive in Gerringong, a coastal town south of Sydney, became a TikTok sensation last year with tourists flocking to take photos on the street with the apparent best view in Australia.
In the time since, tourists have racked up more than $12,000 in parking fines, according to business papers from a May 19 local council meeting, as reported by the Illawarra Mercury. The documents stated that tourists had even been verbally warned not to lie down in the middle of the street for photos. The street does not have any signposted parking restrictions, meaning all fines have been distributed for issues like double parking or blocking resident driveways.

"Council's compliance officers have issued countless verbal warnings for not parallel parking or not parking in the direction of travel,” the report said. “Visitors to the area have been reminded to adhere to NSW Road Rules and refrain from standing, or in some instances lying down, in the middle of Tasman Drive to take photos for social media. "Tasman Drive boasts views of giant waves at Werri Beach, along with greenery and classic Aussie beach-side houses.
The street’s internet popularity has catapulted the unsuspecting residential area into worldwide fame. Residents said tourists had asked to use their bathrooms and kitchen. Others saw only positives in tourists enjoying their street, with one resident telling the US outlet: “It’s made me more aware of just how beautiful it is. We’re all tourists at some point. ”
