A month after the Townsville floods, people are getting back on their feet and the city is back open for business. pmlive

Paul Murray has made the second stop of his regional tour in Townsville, with the ‘Our Town’ series bringing surprises to locals and live music performances to communities across Australia. Founded in 1864, Townsville’s population of 190,000 people experiences 320 sunny days every year.

Nestled on the edge of the Great Barrier reef, it’s known as Australia’s largest garrison city, host to four major defence establishments, with many of these soldiers coming to the aid of locals in the recent Townville floods. The city has been tested and shown immense resilience, with hundreds of homes sent under water, and many still unliveable. However, more than a month after the event, the rugby-league mad community are getting back on their feet and the city is back open for business.
