Trader Joe's is recalling almost 11,000 cases of its Unexpected Broccoli Cheddar Soup in several states because the food has bugs in it, according to the United States Food and Drug Administration
The 20-ounce plastic containers of soup are being voluntarily recalled by its manufacturer — Winter Gardens Quality Foods of New Oxford, Pa. — after the FDA found the company's broccoli cheddar soup "has insects in the frozen broccoli florets." Overall, the recall affects 10,889 cases of the soup in Texas, Florida, Illinois, Washington, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and California, including the product found in the six Trader Joe's stores located in San Francisco.
The Examiner reached out to Trader Joe's for comment on the recall, but did not hear back prior to publication. However, the company said in a prepared statement that"no known adverse health effects have been reported to date, and all potentially affected product has been removed from sale and destroyed."
Last week, Trader Joe's recalled two cookie products because they possibly contained rocks. The company urged anyone who may have bought or who possess a tainted product to contact Trader Joe's Customer Relations at 626-599-3817.
