Kirkham business owners bemoan the roadworks that have been affecting their trade for months
Businesses in one Lancashire town have been left angered by months of roadworks that are affecting trade.
At the first mention of the roadworks, just like the other business owners, she gave us a knowing look as though the disruption was a problem that was on the forefront of everyone's minds. She said: "We've all been to a meeting and got absolutely nowhere with it. On one of the hottest days of the year , you might expect to see somewhere like Kirkham to be brimming with pedestrians, shoppers and groups of people looking for somewhere to seek shade. However, locals say the roadworks have been putting off visitors even during one of the nicest weeks of the year.
Next to Greens is the Candie Shop which is owned and run by Stephanie. She was a member of the community that was involved in the meeting to see what was going on with the roadworks and how businesses would be compensated and when the roads and pavement would be cleared. She said the sewer collapse work was started on Saturday, but she only found out about it on Facebook at around teatime.
Hannah says that the business owners were initially promised that the temporary traffic lights on Poulton Street would be up for eight days in the initial communication that they had, but it's now up to 17 weeks. She says that the disruption has meant she "can't place an order with our main supplier this week," not because of the delivery van logistics but because they simply can't afford to.
