A traffic controller has been killed after a fatal collision with a car on a busy inner-north Melbourne freeway.

The man, 58, was struck in the early hours of Wednesday morning while parked on the side outbound lanes of the Eastern Freeway near Hoddle Street in Clifton Hill.

Police confirmed the 58-year-old was hit by a Toyota sedan about 12.15am, which they believe could have been speeding at the time.Emergency services were called to the Eastern Freeway site in Clifton Hill just after midnight. Picture: Supplied Detective Sergeant Luke Miller told reporters at the scene “wet, slippery” conditions on the road could have been at play in the collision, along with a perceived speed factor.“The Eastern Freeway is expected to be closed for some time while investigators process the scene,” Victoria Police said.Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash on the Eastern Freeway near Hoddle Street, Clifton Hill around 12.15am this morning.
