Comedian Nazeem Hussain's response to the Christchurch mosque attack - the sold-out benefit gig Stand Up For Christchurch - takes place this afternoon at Melbourne Town Hall nazeem_hussain

Mere nights after an Australian terrorist opened fire on the Al Noor Mosque in Christchurch last month, killing 50 Muslims, comedian Nazeem Hussain was in Brisbane, in the midst of his new national tour, pondering how he'd take the stage for another stand-up gig.

Hussain's sold-out Stand Up for Christchurch - a benefit featuring a stunning line-up of comedians, including internationals Mark Watson and Arj Barker, and locals Peter Helliar, Cal Wilson, Matt Okine and more – takes place at Melbourne's Town Hall on Saturday, with all proceeds donated to The Christchurch Foundation's Our People, Our City fund.

The benefit, which will also air telethon-style on Network 10 next Sunday, will address the elephant in the room, the reason for the gathering. PiL singer John Lydon famously chanted "anger is an energy", a reference to the transformative power of channelled rage. The sentiment seems to characterise Hussain's approach to his comedy, and his desire to organise the benefit.
