Oscar nominee John Singleton, known for Boyz n the Hood has died aged 51. John Singleton was the first black director nominated for an Oscar in 1992. RIP ❤️
Singleton’s family said that he died after being taken off life support, about two weeks after the director suffered a major stroke.in part, “It is with heavy hearts we announce that our beloved son, father and friend, John Daniel Singleton will be taken off of life support today. This was an agonising decision, one that our family made, over a number of days, with the careful counsel of John’s doctors.
”“In his private life, John is a loving and supporting father, son, brother, and friend who believed in higher education, black culture, old school music and the power of film,” the statement continued, adding that when he wasn’t working, the director kayaked every morning near his California home., for which he earned two Academy Award nominations, including Best Director, becoming the first African-American and youngest person ever to have been nominated for the award at 24.
