New details have emerged about a Sydney to Melbourne train that derailed in Victoria last week killing two people.
Train driver John Kennedy, 54 and his pilot a 49-year-old Victorian man were killed when their XPT train came off the tracks on a journey from Sydney to Melbourne.
Mr Kennedy raised concerns about the safety of the link in an email to a friend several weeks before the accident. The Sydney Morning Herald reported he had expressed concern over the state of the track, the signal system and ongoing maintenance problems with the 1980s XPT and the last trips he had made were delayed or cancelled due to train fault issues.
