Tranmere Rovers will turn their attention back to League Two football this weekend after exiting the Carabao Cup
Tranmere Rovers’ Carabao Cup campaign came to an end as a second half double from Championship leaders Leicester City sent them to defeat at Prenton Park.
Winks, a summer signing from Tottenham Hotspur, came close to handing his side the lead in the seventh minute but fired narrowly wide with his ferocious left-footed effort from 25 yards. Frustrating Leicester at the other end, Enzo Maresca’s side failed to produce any clear-cut opportunities, with Cesare Casadei coming the closest after heading over from an Albrighton corner.
Looking to turn possession into goal threat in the second half, the Foxes came close to finding the opening goal as Davies came within inches of deflecting Casadei’s cross into his own net. Kieron Morris was the next to try his luck, stinging the gloves of Stolarczyk from long range, but his strike was too close to the Foxes’ ‘keeper to give Tranmere the lead.
