The future of Erik ten Hag as Manchester United manager has been long up for debate. Winning the FA Cup this time around is an upgrade on last season's Carabao Cup success. However, the elephant in the room is the club's eighth-placed Premier League finish, which was simply not good enough. But when you take into account the number of injuries United encountered throughout the season, a decline was always likely.
But that doesn't really feel like the case. Ten Hag has really stuck the flag in the middle of the centre circle and told Jim Ratcliffe that he's here to stay. He said it himself, he'll go and win elsewhere if he's not wanted. While the Dutchman struggled to implement an attractive brand of football, which supporters so desperately crave, he managed to get points on the board. Then, in the summer transfer window, he was backed – and quite considerably too, with his expenditure tallying almost half a billion pounds.
