The NSW high-voltage grid owner is bundling together $8 billion of transmission projects to make their delivery more efficient, potentially saving $500 million.
NSW power grid owner Transgrid is seeking to shave $500 million off the $8 billion cost of transmission projects and bring forward the timing of some lines needed to support the accelerating transition to low-carbon energy, despite local community opposition and rising costs across the economy.
Transgrid’s executive general manager, networks, Marie Jordan, said the cost reduction gains in the environmental, resources and materials areas from bundling the projects together could amount to $500 million based on current estimates.
The release of the report comes ahead of the expected approval within days by the Australian Energy Regulator of more than $300 million of funding to support early works on the HumeLink project, which will cost $3.2 billion to $3.3 billion in total.
