The Coalition had suggested the government was influenced to refuse the application by a desire to protect Qantas' market share. Earlier in question time, the opposition tried to stop the minister from canvassing the previous government's actions by moving a procedural motion, which was ultimately defeated.'No intention' to review application

Home Affairs Minister Clare O'Neil said she supported Ms King's decision, and reaffirmed that Qatar Airways could add extra capacity to Australia through secondary airports, or by flying larger aircraft.
