Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says Treasurer Jim Chalmers “admitted he was worried” after the unemployment rate lifted to 3.7 per cent for the month of January.

“The Treasurer also called on banks today to pass on interest rate rises to savers,” Mr Clennell said.

He said Treasurer Chalmers “also had a decent crack at the Opposition” when discussing the figure at a media conference. “Saying that some of the government’s measures, such as the National Reconstruction Fund it’s trying to get up, are inflation busting – but the Coalition are seeking to block them in the Senate.”
