The Treasurer was asked on US television if he is “happy” with the job Reserve Bank Governor Philip Lowe has been doing, given the amount of pressure he’s been under.
Governor Lowe apologised for the communication bungle in November last year, he defended the statements as having included caveats.
“So that’s regrettable. I’m sorry that that happened. I’m certainly sorry if people listen to what we’d said and then acted on that.” "We'll come to a view on the Governorship of the Reserve Bank closer to the middle of the year, after we get the Reserve Bank review at the end of March and consider its recommendations, but the review and the appointment won't be about any one decision or set of decisions," Mr Chalmers told Sunday Agenda.
