Jim Chalmers has told Australians the inflation situation 'will get tougher, before it starts to ease' after the Consumer Price Index rose 6.1 per cent over the year.
Australians have been warned inflation is set to surge even further over the coming months, with Treasurer Jim Chalmers saying"it's going to be a difficult time ahead".
Mr Chalmers described the latest inflation numbers as"confronting", adding the situation would get worse before it gets better. "These are confronting numbers when it comes to the cost of living pressures that Australians in every corner of our country are feeling," he said. "It's not news to millions of Australians who feel this inflation challenge every time they go to the supermarket and every time the bills arrive.
