Such an outcome leaves headline inflation well above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target, but will represent a marked decline from the multi-decade high of 9.1% hit in June last year and thus may support the central bank in pausing it’s cycle of rate hikes.

The central bank is expected to take its Fed funds rate target back down to 4.5% by June 2023, according to 30-day Fed Funds futures.
