Trial ordered for convicted sex offenders accused of sex acts with teen girl in El Cajon [Breaking]
Two registered sex offenders accused of engaging in sex acts with a 16-year-old girl at an El Cajon motel were ordered Thursday to stand trial on several felony sex crime counts.
At the end of a preliminary hearing in El Cajon Superior Court, a judge determined the prosecutors had presented enough evidence for each defendant to stand trial on charges of sex acts with a minor and possession of child pornography.Inman faces up to 56 years to life in state prison if convicted of all counts. Cantrell faces up to eight years in prison if convicted.
During the preliminary hearing, defense attorneys for both men argued that the girl told the defendants she was 18 and they had no reason to believe otherwise.El Cajon police Detective Jeffrey Domenech testified at the hearing that he spoke with Cantrell in jail, who said he questioned the girl multiple times about her age, including during the alleged sex acts.
Inman also said he “wouldn’t mind marrying her in a couple years, when she turned 18,” Detective Nathaniel Saquilon testified.
