A Tasmanian man in his 60s died while competing in a triathlon event on the state's east coast. Tasmania Police reported that the man, from Launceston, was swimming at Muirs Beach during the swim leg of the Coles Bay Triathlon when the incident occurred. Authorities were alerted just after 10 am on Saturday and stated that the man was a known strong swimmer. According to police, the man was participating in the swimming portion of the triathlon.
In a social media post, the Coles Bay Triathlon organizers expressed their profound sadness, confirming that a competitor had urgently required medical attention during the swim leg. Despite the immediate response of their water safety and medical teams, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.The organizers emphasized that safety remains their top priority and they are actively cooperating with the relevant authorities.
