The Paris 2024 Olympic Games has faced a nightmare scenario as a triathlete has reportedly been hospitalised by an E. Coli infection caught while swimming in the River Seine.

Paris 2024 organisers have been hit with scathing criticism after Belgium announced its withdrawal from the mixed triathlon as an athlete was reportedly hospitalised from swimming in the River Seine .

“She was infected with E. Coli bacteria, an examination revealed. That bacterium can cause gastrointestinal problems. The cause may be the polluted Seine.” “BOIC and Belgian Triathlon must unfortunately announce that the ‘Belgian Hammers’ will not be starting the mixed relay at the Paris Olympic Games,” the statement said.

“While swimming under the bridge, I felt and saw things that we shouldn’t think about too much,” Vermeylen told Belgian media.
