Kyle Meighan, Aiden Broadhurst and Jieh Sufyaan were all sentenced to 32 years in prison after the shooting in Eccles
Three men have been handed jail sentences totalling almost 100 years after a teenager was shot in the street amidst feuding in Salford. The 16-year-old boy, who was airlifted to hospital following the shooting in Eccles on Mother's Day last year, could 'easily' have died, a judge said.
The first missed but the second hit him. In graphic CCTV footage shown in court, the boy could be heard to cry out in pain, shouting ‘I’ve been shot'. All three men were found guilty of attempted murder following a six week trial. Sentencing, Judge Alan Conrad KC said: "This was planned gun related offending of a very serious nature. He added: "All three of you, with others, were involved in dealing in drugs on the estate. Whether the feud between you and the other group resulted from rivalries over drug dealing, or because you resented them coming onto your patch and showing disrespect really does not matter in this case.
They will have to serve two-thirds of their sentence in jail before they can be considered for release by the Parole Board. Imran Shafi KC, for Meighan, had appealed to the judge to draw back from finding him a 'dangerous' offender, arguing that Meighan, of Chancel Avenue, Ordsall, would be a 'changed man' after a lengthy period in prison.
Defending Sufyaan, Alex Leach KC said he had not been involved in the ongoing feud prior to the shooting. Mr Leach said the jury's verdict has had a 'crushing' impact on Sufyaan and his family, and that testimonials told of his 'better qualities' including a 'capacity for industry', as well as 'kindness' and 'loyalty'.
