Barely 24 hours after the ABC committed to a suite of actions to stamp out racism experienced by their First Nations and culturally and linguistically diverse staff, the broadcaster's Director News was again publicly calling it out.
Of the 120 current and former ABC employees who spoke in confidence to the review team, only one participant said they had not experienced racism in the workplace at the ABC but was aware of racism experienced by others. "This racism cannot occur in any workplace and I've called it out today in my communication to staff that if people believe that it's okay to behave like this, this is not the place for them. We will find them and we will make sure they leave the ABC. It cannot happen. It must stop."
The Human Rights Commission has been allocated $7.5 million in funding towards a National Anti-Racism strategy to be delivered over four years from 2022 to 2026.
