Severe Tropical Cyclone Trevor has been upgraded to a category three, making landfall just south of the Lockhart River in far north Queensland.
The storm system has smashed houses and sent trees through windows, bringing winds of up to 220 kilometres an hour to Cape York.
Additional police and emergency service crews have been deployed and residents are being urged to be cautious of downed power lines, flash flooding, damaged roads and displaced wildlife in the wake of the cyclone. Image: NASA World View
