Tropical Depression Nine formed early Friday and forecasts show it strengthening into a major Category 3 hurricane.
Federal meteorologists say the Atlantic should expect another busy hurricane season this year. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration forecasts 14 to 21 named storms, with six to 10 becoming hurricanes. The National Hurricane Center said the system is expected to hit Cuba early Tuesday as a hurricane and then hit Florida early Wednesday.

It had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph and was moving at 14 mph.
A depression becomes a named tropical storm when its sustained winds reach 39 mph. It becomes a hurricane once its winds reach 74 mph.
Early next week, the system is forecast to move near or over western Cuba as a strengthening hurricane and then approach the Florida Peninsula at or near major hurricane strength, with the potential for significant impacts from storm surge, hurricane-force winds, and heavy rainfall, the
