North Sydney MP Kylea Tink's last ditch effort to prevent the Australian Electoral Commission abolishing her electorate has stirred trouble with fellow Teal Sophie Scamps, who believes the plan would harm her own prospects at the next election.

The North Sydney MP received the backing of one of her Teal colleagues, Zali Steggall, with both pushing the AEC to consider an alternative plan that would preserve voters in both electorates. "The northern beaches is a cohesive community with a strong and unique culture, which is defined by the coastal and forest lifestyles," she wrote.

Under the plan put forward by her colleagues, part of Dr Scamps' electorate would be split off and incorporated into a new, merged district made up of what is currently Bradfield and Berowra.
