Jon Johnson Troy football coach Jon Sumrall is a self-described “untrained meteorologist” who on Saturday night was already looking ahead to this weekend’s forecast for West Point, New York, where the Trojans take on Army.

“The good news is here on Wednesday we’ve got a pretty high percentage chance for rain and I can’t wait to practice in it, because that’s what it looks like it’s going to be on Saturday,” Sumrall said. “I looked up the weather at West Point after our game was over to go ahead and start looking what the conditions might be like.

It also means against Army that Troy will likely be often putting the ball in the hands of the nation’s leading rusher in Kimani Vidal, who is coming off a 245-yard, three-touchdown effort during the 37-3 home win Saturday over Arkansas State. Vidal has compiled a nation-leading 835 yards through six games this season. He was named the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

“Weather games you have to be smart, you know, and calculate it with chances you take. Sometimes, the down the field throw is less risky and dangerous in a weather game than an intermediate throw because there are going to be more bodies around.
