The government says Australia is tapping non-Chinese markets for supplies of the critical additive.
Australia’s $100 billion trucking industry is being assured by the Labor government that last year’s panic over supplies of a critical, so it could produce additional supplies of AdBlue after the world’s dominant producer China curbed exports of urea amid local price rises.Trucking groups are watching developments closely given Incitec Pivot has again reiterated its previously announced decision to end production of AdBlue at its Gibson Island facility in Brisbane on December 31.
“Incitec Pivot’s Gibson Island facility was always planned to close at the end of this year,” said a spokesman for Energy and Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen. “The previous government’s grant arrangement was a Band-aid fix to this problem.”Australia’s market for diesel exhaust fuel is “currently well supplied and there are no forecast shortages” the spokesman said.
“Most of the base agent still comes out of China, and we’re subject to the vagaries of global market forces and supply chain disruption. That’s just creating vulnerabilities”.Mr Dumesny warned that failure to guarantee sufficient supplies of AdBlue would add to the industry’s headaches, including growing lead times for new equipment and parts, a critical shortage of drivers, and rising wages, all of which are leading to higher prices in supermarkets and elsewhere.
“Our expert teams continue to manufacture and distribute significant volumes of AdBlue at our Gibson Island fertiliser manufacturing plant in Brisbane.”“We are continuing to work with the federal government, with an agreement to ensure AdBlue supply through to the end of the year.”
