The decision to move TJ Hughes into the city centre was praised by shoppers as people remembered the shop's past.

The business is yet to formally announce its new location, but signs in the window of its current home in Audley House on London Road state it is set to move 'soon' to a unit on the corner of Church Street and Williamson Street, where there was once a H&M.The move has come as good news for many, particularly those with fond memories of the shop, who said it will be 'better and busier' on Church Street.

Eileen Burgess said: "My first job was in TJs working on the till in the staff canteen on a Saturday. Then when I left school I was a junior/clerk typist in the Hire Purchase department [in] 1971. Glad it's still trading after all these years."
