Anthony Albanese has unveiled the federal government's $240 million investment that will see a 'world class, multi-purpose' stadium built in the city of Hobart.
Mr Albanese travelled to Hobart to announce the funding, as part of the government's commitment to build a long awaited stadium in Tasmania's capital city.
Mr Albanese has confirmed plans are underway to make sure"we maximise the use of this site for the economy of Tasmania, for jobs. But also, for improving the amenities and livability in this beautiful city of Hobart". "It's not an Australian Football League if it leaves off the south island, and that's what occurred for too long." for the state to host the league's 19th team, but struggled to overcome the hurdle set by the AFL of building a purpose-built stadium.
The figure will match the state government's contribution, and will go towards a new entertainment precinct, more dining options, player facilities and an enhanced eastern stand. "Where we can build a world class, multi-purpose entertainment and sporting venue where all Tasmanians can be entertained, and watch their favourite footy team which will be there own…after decades of wanting, hoping and dreaming to have our own side.
