Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former White House aide Michael Hook have had their government security detail revoked by former President Donald Trump. This decision comes after Trump ended protection for former national security advisor John Bolton earlier this week. Trump cited the ongoing risk to everyone involved in the 2020 drone strike that killed Iranian General Qassem Suleimani and the need to prevent an endless cycle of government protection for former officials. Republican senators have urged Trump to reconsider, warning that it could deter qualified individuals from serving in future administrations.

“I would encourage the president to revisit the decision for those people who are being targeted by Iran,” Tom Cotton, chair of the US Senate intelligence committee, told Fox News Sunday. “I’ve reviewed the intelligence in the last few days. The threat to anyone involved in President Donald Trump’s strike Suleimani is persistent. It’s real. Iran is committed to vengeance against all of these people,” Cotton said.
“Whether you like John Bolton or not, that’s not the question for me … We need to make sure that if you serve in our government and you take on a foreign power at the request of the administration that we do not leave you hanging,” he said. A representative for Pompeo did not immediately reply to a request for comment, and Hook has not responded to multiple voice and text messages from the AP since Bolton was stripped of his protection on Tuesday.

Trump Ends Birthright Citizenship in Executive OrderPresident Donald Trump has signed an executive order ending birthright citizenship in the US. This long-standing practice, also known as the right of the soil, granted citizenship to anyone born within the country's borders, regardless of their parents' immigration status. The move mirrors Australia's 1986 reforms, which ended birthright citizenship and tied it to a genuine connection with the country. Trump's aim is to reduce illegal immigration and 'secure' US borders. The order has been challenged by 22 states, raising legal and humanitarian concerns. Experts question whether Trump has the authority to end birthright citizenship via executive order.
