Donald Trump was found to have engaged in a “multi-part conspiracy” to overturn the 2020 election, according to a long-awaited report released by lawmakers in the United States.
The 845-page report was finalised after a lengthy investigation which collected more than a million documents, held 10 public hearings and conducted over 1000 interviews.
He was found to be “directly responsible for summoning what became a violent mob” and failed to act or stop his supporters from attacking the Capitol on January 6. Trump’s Twitter account was a central mechanism for inciting the violence, according to the report, starting with a December 19 tweet urging supporters to take to Washington on the 6th.
