The former White House aide testified in the January 6 committee hearing that Trump attacked his security detail.

Irate that he could not storm the Capitol with his supporters on January 6, Donald Trump physically assaulted a member of his security detail and attempted to grab the steering wheel of the car he was in, a former top White House aide said in an explosive public testimony Tuesday.

When Engel refused, Trump had a “very strong, very angry response,” Hutchinson testified: Trump grabbed at the steering wheel. Engel grabbed his arm and told him to let go of the wheel. With his free hand, Hutchinson said she was told, Trump “lunged” at Engel. Hutchinson and Committee Vice Chair Liz Cheney, who led the questioning Tuesday, also made clear that Trump and Meadows had advance knowledge that his supporters were armed. On the morning of the attack, Hutchinson said that Ornato warned Meadows that rally attendees were carrying weapons, including guns, knives, spears, and flagpoles; Meadows, according to Hutchinson, appeared uninterested, not even looking up from his phone.

“He’s really ticked off about this,” she said she was told as she helped clean ketchup off the wall. “I would stay clear of him for right now.”
