The White House released a 'hotwash' report into the policies surrounding the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan in 2021, placing the blame on former president Donald Trump for creating an environment which sparked the chaotic scenes.

The White House released what it described as a"hotwash" report into the policies in place around the time forces withdrew in 2021, ending the longest running conflict in its history.

Former US president Donald Trump was blamed for decisions that"severely constricted" the choices of the Biden Administration when they withdrew troops from Afghanistan in 2021. However, while it does heavily criticise the Trump Administration there are also acknowledgements of the shortcomings in intelligence and planning which marred the process.
