But the reference to the former president’s “small hands” has now taken centre stage in the US Supreme Court as part of a case involving trademark rights, free speech and a humble cotton t-shirt.

“He is taller than me, he’s like 6′ 2″, which is why I don’t understand why his hands are the size of someone who is 5′ 2″,” joked Rubio, who was seeking the presidential nomination against Trump at the time. Trump himself is not a party to the case, although his name was occasionally invoked during oral arguments on Wednesday, where the Supreme Court appeared to be siding with the Biden administration.
