Trump slammed for tweet celebrating China's 70th birthday amid Hong Kong protests
Trump offered congratulations to Chinese President Xi Jinping and the country at large Tuesday in a move which was ridiculed as tone deaf, or ignorant of, intensifying Hong Kong protests which saw one activist shot in the chest just hours before. While protesters called for a"national day of grief" in Hong Kong over the shooting of the 18-year-old, the U.S. president appeared unaware and in solidarity with the country's police accused of escalating violence.
