Trump is wading into the member-vs.-member primary in West Virginia, endorsing Alex Mooney over David McKinley (who recently voted for the new infrastructure law)
11/15/2021 05:18 PM ESTFormer President Donald Trump is endorsing GOP Rep. Alex Mooney in the member-vs.-member primary in West Virginia over GOP Rep. David McKinley, who recently voted for the new infrastructure law.
His decision does not come as a surprise. McKinley, first elected in 2010, has defied the former president in a few key votes over the last year. He voted against objections to the 2020 election results in Arizona and Pennsylvania and backed an independent commission to investigate the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.
McKinley's vote for a massive infrastructure proposal put him even more firmly in Trump's sights. The former president vowed to seek retribution against the 13 GOP members who voted to give President Joe Biden a legislative victory. "Mooney has done an outstanding job as Congressman in West Virginia," Trump wrote in a statement. "In fact, he recently opposed the horrendous Biden Administration’s 'Non-Infrastructure' plan, and he opposed the January 6th Committee, also known as the Unselect Committee of partisan hacks and degenerates.
A Trump endorsement will give Mooney a huge boost in a district that Trump carried by over 20 points. West Virginia
