Who is TuckerKraft? JustinM_NFL talked with the South Dakota State TE about his eye-popping performance at the NFL Scouting Combine, debunking small-school narratives, his busy pre-draft schedule, his favorite routes to run, and more. NFLDraft
is a standout prospect in the 2023 NFL Draft. Kraft projects as an immediate starter at the next level. Kraft was a difference-maker at South Dakota State, departing the program as one of the most decorated players in history.NFL Scouting Combine
JM: You were the focal point of South Dakota State’s offense. It was never a secret who the ball was going to. If the Jackrabbits needed a first down or a touchdown, they called Tucker Kraft’s number. How can that experience help you acclimate to the next level? Tucker Kraft: I love using my size in the passing game. I like to bang off defenders when getting in and out of my breaks. A lot of that has to do with refinement. I’m going to get even better at the next level under the tutelage of a good tight end coach. My size is part of why teams are looking at me. It adds a ton of value. It’s about my size and what I can do with those abilities and my athleticism.
JM: You’re also extremely elusive in the open field when it comes to creating yards after the catch. How did you develop that aspect of your game? Tucker Kraft: I would say one thing about me is that you never have to ask me more than once to stick my nose in there at the line of scrimmage. I’m always comfortable with getting violent. I want to punish opposing defenders as a blocker.
There’s a difference between competing to play for a bowl game at the end of the year and competing for a National Championship. Our coaching staff cares deeply about our program. I could be mistaken, but I believe almost our entire coaching staff is made up of former alumni.
