Turkey says it will delay Swedish and Finnish membership to NATO for more than a year unless the two countries renounce support for Kurdish groups.
The nation is accusing Sweden and Finland of harbouring alleged members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party – which Turkey regards as a terrorist organisation.
Turkey’s objection will place Finland and Sweden in a potentially dangerous grey period before full membership gives them defence protection.
