A University of South Australia lecturer proposes a radical idea to transform older, established suburbs with large single-family homes into denser housing solutions, addressing the housing crisis.

" a way of bringing established older suburbs, particularly those with heritage and character overlays into the conversation of where we can put our new housing," Dr Madigan tells Dr Madigan suggests reconfiguring the title of the allotments, giving that backyard home its own strata title. "If you can make it work from a design point of view, if you can show that there's amenity there and it functions well, then we will let you have three ," he says.
It's also a way for those interested in downsizing to stay in their area and free up some of their equity.
