The first steps were taken by the N.J. Turnpike Authority to fix 11 aging bridges on a key route to and from the Holland Tunnel.

“The point of this project is to keep the existing bridges safe and functional, and to avoid the need for any emergency closures over the next 10 to 15 years,” he said. “They take a pounding every day from heavy traffic, including truck traffic. They need regular, expensive, and often disruptive maintenance just to remain in service.”
“This agreement is the design for a construction contract that will address the structures on the remaining portion of the Extension,” Feeney said.to widen the Hudson County extension through Bayonne and Jersey City and won’t move more vehicles because the road necks down to a two-lane elevated structure and no changes are proposed to the Holland Tunnel approaches.
