Popeyes has come up with a unique solution for those upset by shortages of its popular chicken sandwiches by telling customers to bring their own bun. But some consumers are not impressed.
The fast-food chain made headlines in mid-August after launching a chicken sandwich and sparking a"chicken sandwich war" with Chick-fil-A on Twitter. Fast-food competitor Wendy's. However, Popeyes' tough talk ended two weeks later when the company announced it had run out of sandwiches more than a month ahead of schedule.
"We have seen an extraordinary demand for the new Popeyes Chicken Sandwich following our nationwide launch on August 12," the company wrote in a statement on August 27."The demand for the chicken sandwich in the first few weeks following launch far exceeded our very optimistic expectations. In fact, Popeyes aggressively forecasted demand through the end of September and has already sold through that inventory.
Now, the Louisiana-style restaurant is asking customers interested in trying the product to bring buns to its locations and build their own chicken sandwiches. Try our new BYOB! It's basically The Sandwich! Only no mayo. Or pickles. And you bring your own bun... Really it's just three tenders...
