.Twitter 'shadowbanned' political candidates under old ownership, ElonMusk says
Elon Musk said Twitter"blacklisted" politicians and political candidates under its previous ownership.
Musk's admonition comes in the wake of the second part of the"Twitter Files," a series of documents and details from within the company publicized by Musk and allies as evidence the company had engaged in blacklisting and"shadowbanning" users, including conservatives. When asked if political candidates were"subject to shadowbanning while they were running for office or seeking re-election," Musk said yes. The billionaire did not elaborate.
Journalist Bari Weiss released the latest batch of the documents on Thursday. She posted screenshots from Twitter's internal interface showing limiting tags attached to certain conservative accounts. The tags included"Search Blacklist,""Trends Blacklist," and"Do Not Amplify.
Musk made news last week when journalist Matt Taibbi released the first version of the Twitter Files, which revealed details about internal deliberations regarding the decision to censor news about Hunter Biden's laptop just before the 2020 election.
