Two people have been arrested after a man’s body was pulled from the Yarra River in Melbourne ’s CBD earlier this month. The body of a 22-year-old Clyde North man was found in the river about 4pm on October 1. Police alleged the man left a licensed venue about 1am on 30 September on Flinders Street in Melbourne ’s CBD. “He then had a conversation with a group of males where it is believed an altercation occurred,” a police spokesperson said.
He was chased by two of the men, one of whom brandished a machete. He then jumped into the Yarra River, just before 2.50am, in what police alleged was an effort to evade his pursuers, managing to scramble onto a jetty, before once again falling into the water and drowning. On Monday, police announced two warrants had been executed at a home in Collingwood and Melton South. An 18-year-old Collingwood man and a 16-year-old Melton South boy were both arrested and interviewed by police.
