UPDATE: The two men who were rescued from the River Severn in Shrewsbury this morning were burglary suspects, according to police.
Police say two burglary suspects ran into the river near the Railway Bridge, close to St Mary's Lane.
The spokesman said:"We were called to reports of a patient in the water near to The Old Meadow at 6.04am."On arrival we discovered one male patient who had already been rescued from the water by colleagues from the fire service. Shropshire senior coroner John Ellery has submitted evidence of river deaths dating back nearly 20 years to a safety review being carried out by Shropshire Council. The council is considering measures that should be taken to prevent more tragedies occurring.
