Residents from a Hunter Valley suburb are feeling frustrated after after a driver lost control during a burnout and struck a woman and teenage girl on Friday night.

A driver who lost control of their car during a burnout has fled the scene after hitting two people, including a teenage girl, amid ongoing complaints from concerned residents about illegal hooning events.

Skid marks and debris can be seen at the Gooreengi Road intersection in North Arm Cove from previous events Picture: North Arm Cove Community Association IncEmergency services were called, with Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters extinguishing the blaze. The car has been seized for forensic examination.

North Arm Cove Community Association President Bob Reid told SkyNews.com.au the community had been complaining to the police and council for over six months about the burnout events. "On top of that, we've got a bushfire risk as well, at times when it's really dry - there is bush and grass everywhere, one of these could easily start a bushfire which could threaten the whole village," he continued.
