An 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl died when their car crashed into a power pole and burst into flames in Cairns on Tuesday night.Police say they cannot rule out speed as a factorThe accident happened on Lower Freshwater Road at Barron about 9:30pm.Both teenagers, thought to be local residents, died at the scene.
Senior Sergeant Jason Smith said police could not rule out speed as a factor. He said the pair who died were believed to be"just friends".Firefighters and paramedics were at the scene when police arrived, Senior Sergeant Smith said."The vehicle had collided with a pole and unfortunately there were two bodies inside the motor vehicle."
