One dead, another fighting for life after alleged axe attack in Sydney's south-west
Officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command attended a short time later and located a woman and a man suffering serious stab wounds.
"A male and a female have come to the units here in Cartwright in respect to a dispute and as a result of that a scuffle has broken out and unfortunately it has resulted in two people being seriously injured and passing away from those injuries," NSW Police Chief Superintendent Adam Whyte said.It remains unclear whether it was an axe, a knife or a tomahawk used in the alleged stabbing however it is understood reports of all three weapons were logged with emergency services.
When asked if an axe was used, Chief Superintendent Whyte said: "At this stage, we're still investigating."The Liverpool city detectives are among the best in the state ... and [are] looking at all information in relation to this matter."The woman was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition before succumbing to her injuries.Huntley Place resident Ekhlas Flifal said she was at home with her husband on Tuesday afternoon when she heard police sirens.
"When I went outside they told me to go back inside the house. After about 30 minutes I said my husband needed to go to the station and they let me leave to drive him." Mrs Flifal said there was a public housing block at the end of the cul-de-sac where she had seen police "many times" since moving to the area in 2017.More to come
