Meanwhile, the intern has retained a lawyer, Julie Springer in Austin, who specializes in employment law. Springer confirmed Tuesday she was representing the intern but declined to comment further. "The young adults working in the Capitol are vulnerable and predators readily target these young people. We owe it to these young professionals to set the standard and protect them from harm," she said in a tweet. The complaint said Slaton had invited the intern to his Austin condo after 10 p.m. March 31. The account was corroborated to the Tribune by a person with direct knowledge of the matter who works in the state Capitol. That source said Slaton drank alcohol with the intern, who is under 21.
In the upper chamber, Republican Sen. Drew Springer, of Muenster, tweeted that he would be filing an amendment to a bill about criminalizing child grooming that specifically targets members of the Legislature who engage in grooming behavior with victims under the age of 21.
