The Victorian Ombudsman is investigating a brutal clean-out of the Justice Department’s executive ranks, which became known as the “Red Wedding”; a reference to one of the bloodiest scenes in Game of Thrones. springst
The Victorian Ombudsman is investigating an executive purge and mass hiring of replacement staff at the Department of Justice as part of its broader probe into the politicisation of the public service under the Andrews government.
Long serving public servants, speaking anonymously to protect their employment, said the scale of the executive overhaul was unprecedented and led to a drain of experience and operational expertise from the department. On June 30, 2018, there were 36 women and 37 men employed in executive positions. On June 30, 2021, there were 66 men and 110 women. “We make no apologies for recruiting large numbers of women on merit,” the department spokesman said.
