One woman jumped from a second-floor balcony to escape the blaze, firefighters said.
A woman is loaded onto an ambulance hospital as firefighters battle a blaze at an apartment complex around 3 a.m. Thursday at the ICON apartments, 1300 Patricia Drive.Two women are recovering, and residents of 15 apartment units have been displaced after lightning ignited a fire at a North Side apartment early Thursday.
The fire was reported at 2:50 a.m. at the ICON apartments, 1300 Patricia Drive, San Antonio firefighters said. Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames coming from the second floor, according to Woody Woodward, a San Antonio Fire Department spokesman.The two women injured were on the second-floor balcony. One woman jumped before firefighters arrived and suffered minor injuries. The other was rescued by firefighters and had burns, Woodward said.
The fire spread rapidly through the attic spaces and the units on the second floor. It ran through the length of the building, causing a roof collapse. The blaze was brought under control after about 25 minutes.
